Counselling with Susan

Therapeutic approaches
Would be tailored along the way to suit whatever you might need and prefer, but might include:
  • a cognitive behavioural approach (either a specific programme designed to meet your particular needs, or as a more general and active approach to psychological and emotional difficulties)

  • a person-centred approach (when you just want someone to listen to you, carefully, without making judgements or suggestions)

  • a solution-focused approach (to help you work out your own goals, and empower you to take the next steps yourself)

  • some psychodynamic perspectives (a very reflective approach, if you feel that something has special symbolic meaning for you, or if you want to understand more about how your early experiences are making a difference to you now)

About the therapist
Susan is a graduate of St Andrews University, the Open University, and City University London. She began training as a counsellor with the Westminster Pastoral foundation in 2000, and then went on to complete her clinical training with City University. She has also undertaken additional training with a number of other organisations.

She is a member of the British Psychological Society, the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy, and of the BACP Association for Independent Practitioners. She is also registered with the Health Professions Council. As well as her professional qualifications in counselling psychology, she is certified in Occupational Testing by the British Psychological Society at Levels A and B.

Susan also brings a breadth of experience from many years working in the health and social services, and in business and education, in the UK and overseas. She is experienced in carrying out psychological assessments, and in working with therapy groups as well as individual adults.

In the academic field, Susan has made poster presentations at the British Psychological Society annual conference (2005), and Division of Counselling Psychology annual conference (2007 - winner of Poster Prize - and 2009), and has published in the Counselling Psychology Review (Stevens & Holland 2008 “Counselling across a language gap: the therapist’s experience”).
